What Tournaments?
Being a mixed team the Herd concentrate on the Mixed Tour. This is currently a set of 3 tournaments then a final tournament. This year, they are being held over the summer details are here. We also take part in Winter and Summer league, however they are not our priority.
We'll also plan on going to a set of friendly tournaments over the year. Generally we'll go to Glastonbury, Brighton and some others, with the possibility of a foreign one thrown in for good measure. These are not fixed, so if you want to go to a tournament email someone from the committee and we'll see what we can arrange. If we can't help, there's nothing stopping you putting a team together yourself - just send an email and gauge the response.
Who Goes?
For Mixed tour we are planning on taking 2 teams, a first and second. Teams will be pick on ability and commitment. If you are not picked for the team you think you should be, then speak to Fergus, Kos or Amy. For other "fun" tournaments, we'll enter 1 or 2 depending on the numbers, but with these it's generally if you want to go you can (unless the numbers get silly, in which case it'll be first registered, first in). We'll aim to get the team lists out as early as possible (generally 2 weeks before) to allow you to plan for the weekend.
Cost
For the mixed tours the cost per tournament is going to be £12. This is to ensure we get the cash to cover the ever rising cost of tournament entries. This year we'll hopefully be providing team packs to the 2 teams with any surplus cash - watch this space!
Transport
Depending on the tournament location people will either drive or get the train. Generally there is a forum topic on this, if not create one. It's left up to the individual to get themselves there, so long as they are there in time for the warm-up before the first game. If you have car spaces or need one, get on the forum. The sooner you book the train tickets the cheaper they are, so start planning ahead as soon as you know the teams.
Accommodation
Accommodation goes along the same lines as Transport. This generally involves a B&B. Camping is generally provided by the tournament organisers and if the weather is nice, is probably the best option. If accommodation has to be organised on a per team basis, then someone from the committee will organise it.
UKUA
To play in the Mixed tour you have to be registered with the UKUA, you also need to be rostered with the Herd. You cannot play for 2 different teams during the tour, but you can move between the first and second teams.
We will check before each tour to ensure everyone is rostered and paid up. If you are not, then you won't be able to play, otherwise we face disqualification! If you need more info on this, email Baron.
Kit
To play in the Mixed tour you will also need herd kit. It is a UKU rule that all members of the team have matching kit. Therefore if you don't have any, you better borrow from someone. If you turn up at the weekend without kit, you could be in a lot of trouble and may not get to play - you've been warned. Last Updated Wednesday, June 04 2008 @ 09:03 AM
